FBI says White Supremacists want to weaponize the virus to target “non-white” neighborhoods and law enforcement
White supremacists have been using social media and online apps to encourage its members to used coronavirus as a weapon of “bio-terrorism” by spraying saliva in public places, in an effort to infect minorities and law enforcement, according to the Federal Protective Service’s intelligence briefing.
The document states that the hate group felt “an ‘obligation’ to spread [the virus’ should any of them contract the virus.”
Writer and political analyst Jared Yates Sexton wrote on Twitter that the virus crisis, paired with Trump’s racist rhetoric has created a perfect storm. He shared this on Twitter:
The members have been encouraged to target law enforcement, minority neighborhoods and busy, public places. ABC reported that the group has been blaming the Jewish leaders for the coronavirus. Their theory? Jews created the virus in an effort to cash in on the vaccines, Michael Masters told ABC, the head of Secure Communities Network, a group that organizes security for Jewish organizations.
“Neo-Nazis and others have used this to drive their own conspiracy theories, spread disinformation and incite violence on their online platforms,” he added.
The report from the FPS also states that these are the methodologies they may use:
• Occupying public places with their “enemies”
• Leave saliva on the door handles of FBI offices
• Spray law enforcement with spray bottles filled with saliva
• Leave saliva on elevator buttons
• Spread the virus in non-white neighborhoodsDHS Federal Protective Service on white supremacists and coronavirus
The document calls White Supremacist White Racially Motivated Violent Extremists (WRMVEs).
The FBI is taking this threat seriously because “WRMVEs have been known to travel abroad to adapt foreign terrorists’ tactics. It is likely that they would be willing to travel to China to bring the coronavirus back to the U.S.”
