[VIDEO] Taraji P. Henson Offers Free Virtual Therapy To The Black Community

Taraji P. Henson wants to help the Black community with their mental health
The coronavirus pandemic is creating unprecedented strains on people’s finances, education, health, and safety. This time is also causing many to think about the psychological toll of these uncertain. Taraji P. Henson answered the call and just announced her Free Virtual Therapy Campaign.
On Instagram, Henson posted a video that announced that her Boris Lawrence Henson foundation is launching a fundraiser to help cover the cost of therapy sessions for the Black community. Next week, these communities will be connected with “licensed culturally competent clinicians.”
In the video posted to the foundation’s Instagram page, Henson recognized how difficult it is for the Black community to ask for help.
“If you’re anything life me, you need someone to lean on, to talk to, to help manage your anxiety. But I also know, it’s not easy for everyone to just pick up the phone and call a therapist because who’s going to pay for it?”
In an interview with ESSENCE, Henson said she had to do something because these are “frightening” times.
“We’ve never been through anything like this. It’s new for all of us and it’s frightening,” Henson told ESSENCE. “If you were already suffering from mental issues, this doesn’t help. Most people in underserved communities can’t afford healthcare. And you should never have to choose between a meal and your mental health. So I felt like I needed to do something.”
If you would like to donate to the campaign, text “NOSTIGMA” to 707070.
The virtual therapy services will be open to the public on April 15th. You can visit BLHF Resource Guide to view participating clinicians.
