ICU Nurse wears Steph Curry’s jersey underneath her scrubs, so he surprised her with a Facetime call
The pressure continues to mount for nurses around the world, but especially in America, where personal protective equipment is low and health risks increase. That’s why nurse Shelby Delaney at the Summit Medical Center in Oakland, needed a little boost of inspiration.
She said she put on her Steph Curry jersey to “summon [her] inner warrior.”
Delaney wrote on Facebook, “I threw on my Steph jersey under my scrubs and started brainstorming how I could be part of the solution. What I quickly realized is that there is strength in numbers and that I have a team of people surrounding me that are eager to help but just need some direction.”
The Warriors team quickly found out about the ICU nurse and organized a Facetime call.
“I can’t thank God enough for what you’re doing and just the sacrifice, the selflessness and the way everybody’s coming together,” Curry said.
Delaney later asked him how he perseveres during those times when he’s just human and lacking inspiration. Curry said you have to, “Control your ‘waba’.”
He explained that we have the power to control our words, attitude, behavior and actions.
“I like that,” laughed Delaney.
Ending the call, Steph told the nurses, “We have so many people praying for you, rooting for you.”
Delaney took to Facebook and called it one of the coolest moments of my life.” She gushed about meeting her hero and said she’s grateful for the inspiration, which will help her get through the tough times.
