Minnesota Timberwolves’ Karl Anthony-Towns makes emotional video revealing his mother has COVID-19
NBA star Karl-Anthony Towns posted a video on his YouTube channel and revealed that his mother, Jacqueline Cruz, has been put in a medically-induced coma due to the effects of her COVID-19 symptoms.
The Minnesota Timberwolves center said he wanted to make the video so that everyone understands “the severity of what’s going on in the world right now.”

Fans saw Towns become visibly emotional as he recalled the decline of his mother’s health after they admitted her into the hospital.
“She kept getting worse, she kept getting worse, and the hospital was doing everything they can.”
“She wasn’t getting better,” he went on. “Her fever was never coming down from 103 degrees. Her cough was getting worse. Her lungs were getting worse. She was deteriorating.”
He goes on to explain that the doctors were trying to aid in the discomfort with different combinations of drugs and medicines but to no avail.
A few rough days later, his family thought they had turned a corner after a phone conversation.
“I knew there was more days to come, but I felt that we were heading in the right direction.”
Then it “went sideways.”
“She was getting worse, and she was confused by everything, and I’m trying to talk to her about everything and encourage and stay positive, just talk through everything with her.”
Eventually, the doctors decided to put her on a ventilator to help with her breathing.
“Since that day, I haven’t talked to her, haven’t been able to obviously communicate with her. I’ve just been getting updates on her condition. It’s rough, and day by day, we’re just seeing how it goes. We’re being positive; I’m being very positive.”
Jon Krawczynski, a Senior Writer at The Athletic, sent prayers and shared how Towns’ mother, brightened up a room.
“Anyone who has been around Jacqueline knows how she fills a room with her energy. KAT says she is in a medically induced coma and pleads for everyone to take COVID-19 seriously.”
He also shared that Towns donated $100k to the Mayo Clinic to help them obtain testing supplies adding, “And just to be clear: KAT donated the money to Mayo for testing before his mother got sick. He identified that as an issue that needed addressing.”
So what does it take to recover from COVID-19? Doctors say it depends on the symptoms. If people are only experiencing minor symptoms, it’s recommended that people stay home to recover like you would a common cold.
Dr. David Hicks, the Deputy Health Officer at the Jefferson County Health Department, said it’s time to admit yourself into the hospital if you’re experiencing shortness of breath.
The NBA now has seven teams with infected team members.
Among the notable celebrities affected by the virus: Idris Elba and wife Sabrina Dhowre Elba, Kevin Durant, along with three other Brooklyn Nets players, rapper Slim Thug – and the LA Lakers revealed two of their players tested positive.
