Pastor starts a #PastorSpellStimulusChallenge, asking the community to donate government checks
The Louisiana pastor, who defied state lockdown orders, is now asking his congregation to donate their stimulus checks.
Tony Spell made headlines when he created the #PastorSpellStimulusChallenge, asking Americans to hand over their government checks meant to bring financial relief.
“We are challenging you, if you can, give your stimulus package to evangelists and missionaries, who do not get the stimulus package,” Spell told CNN.

In recent weeks, Spell’s repeatedly disobeyed CDC guidelines when he held large church gathering in Baton Rouge.
In March, Pastor Spell told CNN that shutting down the church was a “persecution of the faith.”
CNN’s Victor Blackwell asked Pastor Tony Spell if he “believed the science” that people who gather in large groups are at higher risk for infection and spread.
“Yes. We believe the science,” said Spell. Adding that he’s more interested in the alleged 99.3 percent of cases where people contract the virus and recover.
Spell says desperation is starting to set in after more than three weeks inside their home. He believes “suicide, domestic violence, starvation and desperation is the last stronghold in their lives.”
Blackwell then insisted that if Spell is “pro-life” these irresponsible actions directly conflict with the pro-life beliefs.
Spell said people should put their hope “in the house of God.” Adding that the church is an absolutely necessity if people are being plagued by fear of the coronavirus.
He told CNN that his community need to know “there is a physician in Jesus Christ. He is the healer; come under you all that are weary and heavy-laden, let me give you rest.”
He ended the line of questioning by stating that the narrative about the fatal virus is untrue.
“We were supposed to be at a million and a half body bags,” he said. “And we’re at 4,800 so the narrative is false, Victor.”
Folks took to Twitter to criticize the pastor.
