[VIDEO] Couple Says This One Phrase Is The Key To Their Marriage
On season two of the popular OWN network show, Black Love, one couple revealed how they began to look at their marriage that makes it beautifully simple for the two of them.
Actress DeWanda Wise (Underground, She’s All That remake) and actor Alano Miller (Underground). The two stars also acted alongside one another in the new FOX drama, Shots Fired.
The two beautiful young actors had a whirlwind love story – getting hitched after just three months.
“I married my husband after three months,” the Wise revealed. “I just knew.”
Alano took time to remind women that there are a lot of good men out there but “they have to want to be married. That’s the thing. They have to want to be in a relationship.”
He continued: “Society has made marriage not look sexy at all. Because it just doesn’t look fun..it looks boring…it looks like a lot of work.”

When pressed further about what marriage actually is Wise said, “It’s really simple. It’s like self-love for two. And that’s how I think about it. Everyday. Anything that I would do for myself; there’s another human being that I have to make another serving for.”
The couple laughed at the simplicity of her statement.
“If I make coffee…” Miller starts. “Then I’ll just make a little more coffee,” finished Wise. “That’s what I think of marriage as – a little more coffee.”
Wise’s breakout role happened in 2017 when she reprised the role of Nora Darling in the remake of the Spike Lee classic She’s Gotta Have It. The series garnered mixed reviews but it did well on its’ Netflix premiere, and it was announced in January of 2018 that there would be a season two.
Just last month, Deadline reported that the series finally got a premiere date. Fans can expect to see Wise reprise her role as Nora Darling on May 24.

So what do you all think? Is that what marriage is? Just serving up a little bit more love that we’d like to give ourselves.
The bigger, more difficult question might be ‘How do you give self-love for two when you’re not probably nourishing yourself?’
Let’s talk about it over on the Michael Baisden Facebook page.

Real Women vs. Bad Apples By: Michael Baisden
What’s it like to wake up every day knowing you’re beautiful on the inside and out? And how does the world respond to you? Do people cheer you on and compliment you for having high self-esteem or do they look at you like a unicorn and attack you with negative comments?
Society has become so accustomed to trash and ignorance that when a woman holds her head up with class and dignity she becomes almost become alien. Now, throw in a sprinkle of open mindedness, ambition, and sexually confidence and now you’ve just gone too far. Not only are you a threat to other women but an insecurity issue for most men.
All I can tell you ladies is to keep raising your standards. There are plenty of men like myself that prefer to climb to the top of the tree to pick our fruit rather than pick up those bad apples off the ground.
The apples on the ground have been picked over, tossed about, and stepped on. I like my apples ripe–a little scarred but still sweet.
Have a great day and always keep your head up! In my eyes you will always be queens but it takes a King to see you. ~ Michael Baisden
P.S. A woman worth having is worth the challenge it takes to get her. She doesn’t have to play hard to get just hard to reach. To get to her is a matter of saying hello, it’s what you say and do afterwards that will determine if you reach her mentally and sexually.
