The New York rapper, Cardi B, is trying to clear the air after a video from her past resurface where the rapper said she drugged and robbed men for money. She has been facing the backlash from the Instagram Live video that is from 3 years ago. People on social media have been putting the hashtag #SurvivingCardiB in reference to the R. Kelly documentary Surviving R. Kelly.
In the video, she said, “I had to go strip … I had to go, ‘Yeah, yeah yeah, let’s go back to this hotel,’ and I drugged n- up, and I robbed them. That’s what I used to do,”.
She addressed the situation on Tuesday posting a message including “I made the choices that I did at the time because I had very limited options.” She also says that the men she spoke about in that video were “conscious, willing and aware.” and were ones she dated in the past.
She also explained that many male artists can glorify violence and crime in their songs and that’s something she would never include in her music. “I never glorified the things I brought up in that life I never even put those things in my music because I’m not proud of it and feel responsibility not to glorify it.”
Cardi B’s past is not a secret as she used to be stripper beginning at the age of 19. She has said that she stripped to escape poverty and domestic violence and that stripping was positive for her life in many ways. She is not proud of her actions and knows that this wasn’t okay saying, “ I never claim to be perfect or come from a perfect world with a perfect past I always speak my truth I always own my s-.”
Cardi B is now married to Atlanta rapper Offset and is a mother to their 8-month-old daughter, Kulture. Her husband actually praised her after her message saying, “RIDE OR DIE FOREVER LOVE YOU NO MATTER WHATS GOING ON I LOVE YOU. BEST MOTHER AND HUSTLER I KNOW.” with a picture of the two on vacation.
