Florida Church Still Open During Pandemic!
Update: March30, 2020 | 5:30 PM ET
Pastor Rodney Howard-Browne has officially been arrested and booked for unlawful assembly and for violating health and safety rules.
The River at Tampa Bay Church in Florida was packed this past Sunday; the Pastor vowed he would never close his Church despite social distancing guidelines. Pastor Rodney Howard-Browne, who presides over the megachurch, has been reportedly defiant over social distancing. The Pastor has preached ridiculous theories claiming he’ll cure coronavirus the same way he did with Zika.
Many people showed up to service, almost elbow to elbow as you see in the video:
Howard-Browne said on March 17th that he was not going to close the Church; “We are not stopping anything. I’ve got news for you; this Church will never close. The only time the Church will close is when the Rapture is taking place.”
TMZ reported that the Pastor said this; “We brought in 13 machines that basically kill every virus in the place, and uh, if somebody walks through the door it’s like, it kills everything on them. If they sneeze, it shoots it down at like 100 mph. It’ll neutralize it in split seconds. We have the most sterile building in, I don’t know, all of America.”
TMZ reported this afternoon that the controversial Pastor, Rodney Howard Browne is now wanted by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Dept. after holding services, openly defying the law and science during the coronavirus pandemic.
Many religious institutions are holding services online during the pandemic; this is the safest way to experience Church while we are experiencing this Coronavirus pandemic.
Is Attending Church During The Coronavirus Pandemic…Faith Or Madness? By Michael Baisden
Full disclosure, I’m not a fan of organized religion. Having said that I am a fan of people being able to exercise their religious freedom. But what’s going on right now in this country with some of these church leaders is utter madness!
No one is saying that you can’t serve your God or worship with your pastor and congregation. But today’s technology allows you to do that without endangering not only your life but the lives of the members of the church and the general public.
And what does it say about a pastor who literally loads buses of congregants up to attend service while a pandemic is spreading across the country? Is he or she a person with a message from God or selfish interests and greed?
Now, some may argue that if you have faith in God you believe he will protect you, no matter what! But is that faith or foolishness? God also gave you a brain… so use it!
Is it wise to go into a building that could be infected with the coronavirus? This virus can stay on some surfaces for up to 2 to 3 weeks. It’s also airborne so what do you think it’s happening with the choir starts singing along with the person next to you and behind you?
But most importantly let’s think about the elderly church members and our elderly family members at home. What does God or the Bible or the pastor have to say about them? This virus is a killer of healthy 30-year-olds, and teenagers, and infants. But it is most deadly for those over 65, and we’re going to parade them into the church to worship? That to me is attempted murder or at the very least criminal negligence!
Belief in God or faith in a higher power should never come at the price of putting others at risk. And even if you wanted to attend church on your own the fact is you could carry that virus back to your home and your community and infect hundreds if not thousands in your community. That’s not being a good Christian that’s being a selfish idiot!
A nurse with five children at home, says “evil” manager wanted her to work on the coronavirus floor
A nurse, with a compromised immune system and five children at home, quits immediately after learning she had to work the coronavirus floor in her hospital.
Recently Melissa, a 30-something-year-old nurse, took to Instagram to reveal that she is quitting her job after her manager requested that she work on the hospital floor that tested positive for coronavirus. Watch her exit video below:
The nurse has a husband and five children at home. She is also a breast cancer survivor and may have a weakened immune system, according to her Instagram.
Melissa explained, “I was sent to a Coronavirus floor [of the hospital]. They know that I have kids at home, who I cannot send away.”
The video went viral when The Savoy Show posted the video on Instagram.
Towards the end of the video, Melissa breaks down, “[My manager] is evil. She knows my health history. She knows that my kids don’t have anywhere to go to.”
Many commenters agreed with the woman. One stating, “I’m sorry, no job is worth my life.” Another agreeing, “Don’t blame her one bit; they barely want to provide gloves.”
Meanwhile, others said it’s Melissa’s duty as a nurse to stay at work.
“She’s in the wrong,” wrote one woman. “I work in the ER, firsthand with these Covid patients and there’s plenty of nurses with other health conditions that do make them vulnerable to getting the virus and they, or me, have not quit. This is your JOB…and you quit? Not good.”
Another nurse who said she has HIV still comes to work, “Don’t be a nurse then. Find another career.” Adding, “If every nurse thought like this woman, we would be doomed.”
Someone came back retorting, “Everybody [is] saying that’s what she signed up for. She signed up to help. She didn’t sign up to get infected by the coronavirus and put her life and kids at risk.”
Whichever side you’re on, it’s clear these nurses are under the most intense pressure.
The novel coronavirus is creating increased pressure on medical professionals in America. Nurses in NYC reported that they’ve been using trash bags as protective gear. The shortage of N-95 masks means many are reusing personal protective equipment. Then, there’s the constant risk of becoming infected with the fatal virus without the proper safety precautions.
Ending the video, Melissa says, “My life matters. My kids matter.”
