Is A Biden-Cuomo Ticket The Best Way To Beat Trump?
Vice President Biden says a woman will be on his ticket, but is Biden-Cuomo the way to beat Trump?
As the 2020 elections approach during the most uncertain times since the Great Depression, the Biden campaign is struggling to maintain relevancy and enthusiasm for his presidential bid.
The New York Post reported that people close to Gov. Andrew Cuomo have been working behind the scenes about getting the New York governor on the ticket as vice president.
But Cuomo called the rumors “flattering” yet “irrelevant.” He claimed that the work needed in New York was the only thing on his mind.
While speaking with WAMC’s Alan Chartrock, Cuomo said, “I don’t want to be vice president. I told the people of the state of New York that I wanted to be their governor and I said I would serve as governor, and that’s what I want to do.”
But a former senior Cuomo staffer says different. The source told The Post that Cuomo’s approach is “very calculated.” Adding that “if given the opportunity,” Cuomo would put his name in the running.
Cuomo has become a familiar face on the daily news briefing as New York remains one of the nation’s hotspots for the coronavirus. Americans online have praised Cuomo for his level-headed handling of the outbreak in his state.
A top aide for Cuomo’s camp insisted that the rumors are false.
“Give me a break — The Governor has already definitively said he has no interest in being considered for the position,” Melissa DeRosa declared.
Vice President Joe Biden calls Cuomo a friend, but his campaign has already floated plans to pick a woman to put on his ticket.
Campaign spokesman Bill Russo told The Post, “Vice President Biden has said numerous times how much he admires the leadership that Governor Cuomo has shown in responding to this crisis. He has also plainly and proudly stated that he will select a woman to run alongside him to defeat Donald Trump this fall. Neither of those views have changed.”
