Is Attending Church During The Coronavirus Pandemic…Faith Or Madness? By Michael Baisden

Is Attending Church During The Coronavirus Pandemic…Faith Or Madness?

Full disclosure, I’m not a fan of organized religion. Having said that I am a fan of people being able to exercise their religious freedom. But what’s going on right now in this country with some of these church leaders is utter madness!

No one is saying that you can’t serve your God or worship with your pastor and congregation. But today’s technology allows you to do that without endangering not only your life but the lives of the members of the church and the general public.

And what does it say about a pastor who literally loads buses of congregants up to attend service while a pandemic is spreading across the country? Is he or she a person with a message from God or selfish interests and greed?

Now, some may argue that if you have faith in God you believe he will protect you, no matter what! But is that faith or foolishness? God also gave you a brain… so use it!

Is it wise to go into a building that could be infected with the coronavirus? This virus can stay on some surfaces for up to 2 to 3 weeks. It’s also airborne so what do you think it’s happening with the choir starts singing along with the person next to you and behind you?

But most importantly let’s think about the elderly church members and our elderly family members at home. What does God or the Bible or the pastor have to say about them? This virus is a killer of healthy 30-year-olds, and teenagers, and infants. But it is most deadly for those over 65, and we’re going to parade them into the church to worship? That to me is attempted murder or at the very least criminal negligence!

Belief in God or faith in a higher power should never come at the price of putting others at risk. And even if you wanted to attend church on your own the fact is you could carry that virus back to your home and your community and infect hundreds if not thousands in your community. That’s not being a good Christian that’s being a selfish idiot!
