University of Tampa Students Test Positive For COVID-19 After Spring Break
The University of Tampa reported that five of its students tested positive for COVID-19 during spring break.
The UT students were on spring break vacation before testing positive, the university announced on Twitter. The school didn’t specify exactly where the students visited or if all of them were living on the university campus.
This comes just after videos and photos showed large crowds of spring-breakers in Florida. Many watched and criticized the spring breakers because many kept their travel plans after President Trump’s recommendations to refrain from gathering in groups of 10 or more.
“If I get corona, I get corona. At the end of the day, I’m not gonna let it stop me from partying,” said one spring breaker.
“We sincerely wish our students, and any others who may be affected, a full and rapid recovery,” UT posted on Twitter Saturday night.
Many in the nation wondered why Florida kept its popular beaches open during the Spring Break season.
But not all Florida officials were in agreement about this leniency.
Florida attorney has filed a lawsuit against Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) for failing to close down the beaches during the pandemic.
The suit was filed by Daniel Uhlfelder late Friday evening and request that DeSantis close all of the state’s beaches.
By Friday, the DeSantis got the message and closed the beaches in Broward and Palm Beach County and advised his residents to listen to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) guidelines on social distancing if going to the state’s other beaches.
Florida’s restaurants and nightclubs will also be shut down for the next month.
On March 17, the University of Tampa switched to online classes.
