Today on my national radio show I will share the news with my listeners that we’ve lost 100,000 of our brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, grandparents, and children. And the number will only rise thanks to Trump.
Trump refuses to wear a mask in public, sending a clear message that wearing masks should not be taking seriously. He’s done such an effective job of scandalizing wearing a mask that it’s become a political statement. If you wear a mask, you’re against Trump, if you don’t, it means you want to make America great again! What stupidity.
A recent study showed that if Trump would have closed the country down just one week earlier more than 30,000 lives would have been saved. And keep in mind, he’s not the reason why most states went on lockdown in the first place, that was the decision of Mayors and Governors. The Trump administration has done nothing but recommends preventive measures, not mandate them.
Now 100,000 Americans are dead and where’s Trump? When this terrible landmark was reached, he was silent as a church mouse. Not even so much as a peep from a man who can’t control himself. Not even so much as one of his trademarks lies on Twitter.
For a man who is obsessed with ratings, this is one number he wants to distance himself from, but he can’t hide from this one because, as he likes to remind us all, he’s the President. Well, Mr. President, you’re f***king this up!
Not only did he lie and mislead the public about the seriousness of this virus, but he continues to downplay the potential devastation that will come with a second wave. His impact on his supporters became horrifying clear when a man who was being interviewed on CNN said, if the President doesn’t wear one, I’m not wearing one.
In late February, Trump downplayed the virus. There were only 15 confirmed cases then, and he told the country that 15 would “soon be down to zero”. That was then and this is now, 100,000 of our fellow American are gone!
But the number of dead are not equally distributed across racial or social-economic lines. The vast majority of the dead are the elderly and people of color, especially black people. And the industries most impacted are prisons and meatpacking plants, where many of those workers are also minorities. Remember, Trump, by executive order, forced these plants to stay open even though they didn’t have adequate testing or social distancing.
Last Friday, I promised my listeners I would ‘Forget Trump’ and focus on our community by providing information about strengthening our immune systems and promoting minority businesses.
But today I had to make an exception. 100,000 Americans are dead…and counting. And because of a lack of leadership and a lack of empathy, Trump’s policies will almost certainly cause that number to increase as more states open for business.
So, here’s my last word on Trump, stop listening to him, stop taking him seriously, and stop wasting energy on his supporters. If they’re still supporting him, they’re just as messed up as he is.
We must turn our attention to taking care of each other, living healthier, and organizing to get out the vote in November. I know some of you have issues with Biden but you don’t have to be a Biden fanatic to vote for him. Just vote against Trump. The slogan below says it all.
