I'm In the Kingdom-Spoken Word Poetry

I'm in the Kingdom by Kamal Emanuel

Thy Kingdom Come

Thy Will Be Done

On Earth as it is in Heaven!

I'm in the Kingdom!

I'm feeling fresh

one of his chosen

I'm blessed

meditating on his word

I do my best

doubting Thomas' surround me

I care less

The Devil Sidetracked me

All my life

But the door opened up

His name is Christ

He called for me and I didn't think twice

I'm in the Kingdom!

See what that means…

Sooner Or Later

say do you remember

when you renounced your throne

time had come to gather

the fruits that you had sown

couldn't stand no longer

circumstances outgrown

nor could future further

unconsciously postpone

true love is forever

and you had always known

that sooner or later

that road would be your own

setting out to conquer

noble the enterprise

chariot of fire

you hero on the rise

driven by the hunger

and the…

Perseverance

it's curious how it creeps into reality

insidious it just seeps through my leniency

i transgress by neglect not so deliberately

then comes the redirect that dispels apathy

others in selflessness offer their perspective

their seeming carelessness has me introspective

reflections of the part of me that's defective

upset my applecart corrective collective

chaos augurs the chart moon is square to…

Understanding

and here i go again

a man on a mission

to achieve by mere pen

identification

of all errors and then

their elimination

so all can hear the wren

sing of liberation

in hindsight i recall

throughout my history

icons and figurines

of the virgin mary

gradually fading

out of reality

and how my bad habits

down to sleep had laid me

remove those obstacles

o eastern deity

the knight of…

Dr. King's Dream, Feasible or Fantasy???

I used to visit forums on the internet. Like, often. Nearly every one of them had a “soap box” thread where you could talk about anything. The titles ran the gamut, from “atheists or Christians:  who’s crazier” to “what color socks are you wearing?”

One day, after…

Real Love, What Is It???

In a folktale that has been retold for centuries in many variations (one of which is Shakespeare's King Lear), an elderly king asks his three daughters how much they love him. The two older sisters deliver flowery speeches of filial adoration, but the youngest says only "I love you as meat loves salt." The king, insulted by this homely simile, banishes the youngest daughter and divides his kingdom between…

Angel on the Threshold

you so wanted to be yourself

life had told you, « you will be saved »

but now you stand on the wire

suspicious of the road you paved

you so wanted to be so rich

that all problems you'd be rid of

life responded, « work through them first,

true wealth comes from rising above »

you so wanted to rush forward

but you were still stuck at the dam

life instructed, « don't miss the mark

you'll have to repass the exam »

you…

What Is The Most Important Thing In Your Life???

If you and I were face to face right now and I asked you that question, you’d probably promptly reply with “my family” or “my children” or “my spouse.”

But are you actually living that way? We say our family and relationships are most important, but our values are demonstrated not by our words, but by our deeds—not by what we say, but what we…

What World Do You Really Live In?

Walk into any restaurant, airport, park, or even a child’s school play or Little League game and you will see many people who aren’t even there.

While their bodies are there, their minds and spirits are trafficking in another world—on email, Facebook, Twitter, Farmville, Second Life, Amazon, eBay, Angry Birds, Yahoo News or any number of alternative virtual worlds.

My…

Vigilance

increasing are the stakes

as i approach the hall

one slip is all it takes

and from heaven i fall

unconcerned by the flakes

straining against the squall

stable despite the quakes

determined to stand tall

vultures hover in wakes

their squawking won't appall

reminded of my aches

i stay clear of the brawl

nor will slithering snakes

by their hissing enthrall

dwelling on past mistakes

only prolong the crawl

ongoing…

Success Without Significance...

As a society, I think we often misunderstand the word success.

Our society celebrates those who obtain fame, wealth, power and celebrity, no matter the means—ethical or not—and we call them successful. Success is often equated to an achieved status, rather than to a measure of value or contribution.

We are taught early in life to strive…

GOP Blows Off Latinos In CNN Debate

While the media’s political high priests go gaga over Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann’s lying about the effects of the HPV vaccine and Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s cozy role with pharmaceutical giant Merck, the biggest issue to emerge from the CNN/Tea Party Express debate is virtually being ignored.

Last Monday, a basic question about what the GOP should do to appeal to Latinos turned into a vicious discussion about building a wall along the Mexico-U.S. border, about how the DREAM Act is a…

Let's Work Together...

The more than one million petitions, letters and emails that you helped send on behalf of Troy Davis have put his case in the global spotlight.

Together, our collective action spurred pleas for a stay from people like Pope Benedict XVI, President Carter, former FBI Director William Sessions and Archbishop Desmond Tutu, as well as demonstrations from Savannah to Atlanta to Dayton to Hong Kong.…

Merle T. Rutledge Jr Quotes on Life, Relationships, and Politics

Merle T. Rutledge Jr Quotes along some other great leaders thoughts to share

  • "When you write about your relationship and do your editing? Do you see a lot of run on sentences, fragments, and misspelled words, than you need to correct the errors. If you do not and turn that paper back in for it to be graded than the consequences will only be your fault, because if you took a little more…

No Eddie Long We Cannot Ignore The Past

When Bishop Eddie L. Long stood before his congregation in Lithonia, Ga., May 29 to declare that he would be looking forward, not focused on the past, his supporters said that’s the right thing to do. He had just settled civil lawsuits that alleged he had coerced young male followers into sex.

Sorry, bishop, as a man of God who is the shepherd of an international ministry, we cannot simply let you off that…

Stand Solid And Hold Your Ground...

First, find out what really interests you in life, and then dig in and discover a lot about it. Become an expert or, at least, become very well informed. As much as it is economically possible, follow the things you really care about in life and work with people you like. Try to craft a career or a path that is meaningful, and then the energy will flow naturally. If you only do the things you think you ought to do, it will always be a struggle to get up in the…

The Last Day - Poetry by Merle T. Rutledge Jr

My destiny is unknown with petty guesses.  The thought of the last day always brings trembles to my soul.  We all talk about we are not scared to die, but we all know that's a lie.  The last second, minute, or hour never looks like we are prepared.  It is a total shock, and our expressions catch that in full detail.  The question is what is left for us in this cold venomous world.  The soul and body is taunted each and every day, no matter how good we make it appear.   Our minds…

Purposefulness

is the aim too lofty

is the mountain too high

the riddle too knotty

or the desert too dry

how can it be enough

if the goal is so near

how can it be too tough

if the prize is so dear

how can it be too late

if there is still some life

why stop at the last gate

when the roads are so rife

in your going forward

even against the stream

never become deterred

hold on tight to the…
