Devotional: Failure is not an Option!

Dance like nobody's watching; love like you've never been hurt. Sing like nobody's listening; live like it's heaven on earth. ~ Mark Twain

Scripture:

I urge you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and put obstacles in your way that are contrary to the teaching you have learned. Keep away from them. For such people are not serving our Lord Christ, but their own appetites. By smooth talk and flattery they deceive the minds of naive people. Romans… Continue

Dear Black Man

I am an extension of you. So your weariness is my problem, too. Allow me, as best I can, to offer you grace, and comfort, and understanding. Relief from the hardship of your journey. I know we Black Women -- your feminine extension -- have been accused of many things, like having: too much drama; too much mouth; too much attitude; too much complaining; and not enough compassion. May this letter serve as a humble attempt to change that script.

I want you to exhale. I want you to…

I don't need anyone to do a drive by. This is just another blog, story chapter or whatever of Menia's life. With that said, your comments are sincerely welcomed!

To The Black Man (pt 2)

I am not your antagonist. I am not your competitor. I am not your judge or critic or victim. I am, undeniably, a part of you. And you are an undeniable part of me. What if we were to agree that our mutual well-being would be the most important thing? What if I decided, that as of this moment, I wouldnt be a part of conversations or choices that undermine you? I wouldnt lend my voice to the clamor of your perceived short-comings? (Im not denying that some of these complaints are valid,… Continue

Your Friends? Are They??

Tell me who your best friends are, and I will tell you who you are. If you run with wolves, you will learn how to howl. But, if you associate with eagles, you will learn how to soar to great heights. "A mirror reflects a man's face, but what he is really like, is shown by the kind of friends he chooses." The simple but true fact of life is that you become like those with whom you closely associate - for the good and the bad. The less you associate with some people, the more your life…

What IF???

Obama/Biden vs. McCain/Palin, what if things were switched

around?.....think

about it. Would the country's collective point of view be different?

(10/8/08)

Ponder the following:

What if the Obama's had paraded five children across the stage,

including a three month old infant and an unwed, pregnant teenage daughter?

What if John McCain was a former president of the Harvard Law Review?

What if Barack Obama finished fifth from the…

Inauguration Ball 2009

Guests began arriving early. There are no place cards and no name tags. Everyone knows everyone else here. Now, there’s a grand foursome - Malcolm X and Betty Shabazz sharing laughs with Martin and Coretta Scott King. Looks like Hosea Williams refused the limo again, keeping it real. And my goodness; is that Rosa Parks out there on the dance floor with A. Phillip Randolph?Seated at a nearby table, Frederick Douglass has a captive audience in W.E.B. DuBoise and Fannie Lou Hamer, and Medgar Evers… Continue

Our Deepest Fears

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to… Continue

Good Black Men

Good Black Men are indeed all around us. We pass them on the streets, in the malls and the halls at work. Most we can't see because we don't know what a good man really looks like. He usually isn't flashy enough or rich enough to turn our heads. He might not wear a suit or push a Lexus. He might not have a body like Tyson with a Denzel face. But, as you mature, you realize it's better to find someone who's got your back rather than someone who turns your head. A good man doesn't agree… Continue

This is for all you WOMEN 35 years and over... and for those who are turning 35, and for those who are scared of moving into their 40's...AND

Before It Hits Home

This is the title of a play I saw this evening at Thomas Nelson Community College. I highly recommend those that live in the Hampton Roads area to see this play. There are three more shows coming up on December 5-6 at 8pm and on the 7th at 3pm. This play was produced by Iron Street Productions This plays deals the issue of AIDS and being on the down low. Although this story has its emotional side, it also shows truthfully how a family deals… Continue
