Staying connected...

I found that in 2009, I spent less and less time on ISC as I utilize other networking sites to keep in touch with my friends and family. In 2010, I'm making changes and I would like to extend an invitation for you to connect with me on twitter or facebook. And if you follow my writing that's changing, too! I'm already changing the format of my main blog from blogspot to wordpress and there are many more changes on the horizon. So, please check me out. I hope we stay connected.

Are you single-minded?

As we all move into the next year, I pose 2 questions… Are you single-minded about your business? Your spiritual, relationship, corporate, entrepreneurial – whatever your business! When single-minded, we practice rituals that bring the mind to a central point of focus. We prepare our mind to concentrate, absorb and grow. I spend a lot of time thinking, talking, and writing about relationships. I’ve embraced a relationship with someone special and we’ve made a single promise… to protect each… Continue

Men! Ima need you to....

Ima need you to... quit taking the easy route. Ima need you to... figure out what you like. No, not what you don’t like, what you like. Ima need you to... make a decision. Ima need you to... act on it. Yes, Ima need you to... be a man.

Quit being lazy. So, you live in an area where the women are plentiful and eye candy is effectively displayed on the regular. You’ve become accustomed to the ease of your selection, but… you then have the audacity to complain about the end result.… Continue

The Business of Dating: Marketing 101

Back in 1982, I drank orange floor cleaner. No, I wasn’t trying to kill myself; I was just a kid. It was back in the day when most people got paid once a month. Mom had come home from the store with a ton of groceries. My brother and I were putting everything away and by mistake, my brother put the orange floor cleaner in the refrigerator.

I thought it was some new kind of Tang, not reading the bottle and poured a tall glass. I even remember the way it smelled. I was thirsty and this… Continue

"Almond Joy's got nuts, Mounds don't" - How's Your Self Talk Working?

Journey into the mind that produces Primary Thoughts. What goes on in my head as I write the words you read each week? Is my writing always a systematic process created from detailed research or is it a collection of thoughts transcribed from the voice in my head (represented by italicized script)? I will let you be the judge.

In August, I wrote “I value my time; much more important than money. If I could create Melanie hours while everything else stood still I'd be… Continue

The Melting Pot

At times I've handled my thoughts about race in constructive ways, other times not, but I've always been fascinated with race. My blog "From My Father's Knee" tells some of the story. The story of a little girl that as early as she can remember was always questioned about what she was.

As an adolescent, I remember my white friend telling me that boys weren't going to like my butt, because it was too big. I remember my black friends telling me that I it was too small. Curly hair was… Continue

I Need You

Why do we spend hours upon hours of our lives trying to understand what we are about? Who and why we are attracted to certain people? Why do we spend the first 10 or more years of our adult life carefully planning every goal striving to maintain a spot free personal and professional resume?

In our society today, both men and women know how to cook, clean, comb hair, wash clothes, raise babies, give warm hugs and help with the homework. Both men and women know how to take out the… Continue

The Lower End Theory – Yes, Underwear

Am I the only one? I hate seeing a person with underwear on that you can see; women are the biggest offenders, but then there are men and their boxers. Let’s address the women first.

Ladies… we have so many styles of panties at our disposal. There are traditional briefs, bikini briefs, and hi-cut briefs. There are string bikinis, hipsters, boy shorts and thongs. All of these come in various types of fabric and most styles can be found with seamless panty-line technology. So, why do… Continue

I Want It My Way!

We’ve all heard the slogan for Burger King – “Have It Your Way”. On their website, they even have sliders to allow visitors to control the site; they give instructions “Use the sliders to have the BK site just the way you want it”. Unfortunately, it appears that many of us have taken this type of quick, easy and complete control to heart…

A friend and I discussed porn recently. During our conversation, I commented that I had conducted an… Continue

"How can I be a Father, when I was never a Son?"

I recently had someone offer me this title to write from (Thank you ~ Jay, Still I Rise). Until this past Christmas, my son’s father was not in his life, so when I read the question it struck me at my core. While I had not put it in these words, I’ve often contemplated how I would teach my son to be a father. To wait until the decision is made would be too late. This must be taught, reared, and regarded… regardless of whether he becomes a father or not. It’s one of the most important… Continue

The Team: God, A Single Mother and Her Son

As the mother of a son whose father has been absent for most of his 11 years, I’ve attempted to embrace mentoring programs, church ministries, sport leagues and other avenues to bring forth a male presence in my son’s life. Like many families, our extended family is spread across the country, so it’s not as simple as him hanging out with an uncle or a cousin. It’s been hard and along the way, we have met many obstacles.

Our primary dilemma? Education comes first. For the extent of my… Continue
