Mingle City

Tonight I was watching one of those entertainment news shows when my jaw almost hit the ground. They showed BBW's auditioning for a new FOX reality show called More To Love about BBW's looking for love.

This surprised me because I wrote a treatment for a BBW dating reality show almost two years ago and filed it with The Writers Guild Of America. Someone I met in the BBW promotional loop was supposed to help me shop it to FOX in Virginia but somehow it just didn't happen. I know what you may be thinking, they stole my show - right? Well maybe not. We'll see. The basic concept isn't original although I will be watching to make sure they didn't copy my idea.

One thing that is definitely different is the paring. They are ONLY looking for BHM's to pair with these women. They used the example of actor Kevin James. I personally take offense to that. What they are saying is the only person who will want a BBW is a BHM and vice versa. That is truly some frackle-nackle bullition of the 1st order! Why can't they open it to any man who loves BBW's (which is what I suggested) and have a separate show for BHM's to find love the same way! Probably 85-90% of the men who approach me are not BHM's and many are very, very built, athletic looking brothas. Likewise while I was in college a friend of mine who was no bigger than a blade of grass had a boyfriend who was a good 400 pounds and she was madly in love with him!

I guess we should be happy that we are getting a show at all but I am tired of being sold an unrealistic picture. I also dare them to find larger BBW's than the size 14-22 women that they featured on the entertainment show. I know Lane Bryant was hosting the auditions so they may have been going by the sizes that store carries but why not pull a size 28 woman and put her in front of the camera instead of the safer sized BBW's.

I agree this is kinda a slapp in the facce for BBW and BHM. You hardly ever see a Plus Sized Diva and A Handsome Big Bother together. It does send a message that Handsome smalller men or athletic build men will not want a BBW I dont think I will tune in to this show and i dont see it being that sucessful if they dont open up their eyes and minds
The sad thing is that I do see people watching it just because it will fit their stereotype that no one wants a juicy person except another juicy person. I do plan to watch to see if they ripped me off or not and to see what they do with the show - if it's humiliating to people of size, etc.
If it's going to be a reality show, then that is how they should portray it. It is a known fact that smaller men LOVE BBW'S!!! Most of them look at us as a challenge. It never fails I can be out somewhere and that cocky, short brotha will come over to me everytime. Men of all discriptions like BBW'S. You just still have some that aren't ready to admit it yet. They better look out!!! BBW's are taking over.!!! Did anyone see Rip the Runway? I was so proud of those models, I jumped up and hollered. I am going to look out for that show. And if it's not done RIGHT!! Ladies we are going to let them know!!!! They are not doing us a favor. They know BBW'S SPEND MONEY....LOTS OF MONEY!!! THEY SHOULD WANT TO CATER TO US!!!
I agree Amber. Pencil thin men and men who as so short they can't even clear my boobs are forever pushing up on me in the grocery store, etc. I know BBW's who have married both types as well plus then there are the so called average sized brothas and athletically built brothas too.
Years I ago I went shopping with a couple of smaller "sisters" from the church I used to go to. They made a big production out of the number of men who looked at me, spoke, etc. They were so surprised. It truly opened their eyes although I did get irritated about them going on and on about it like it was some freak anomaly that they just happened to behold. As Mo'Nique says, Skinny Women Are Evil. LOL
Yes I agree.I am a BBW and my Husband is 6"3 185lbs.So no I do not want a BHM.I have nothing against Big men just not my type. And guess what They never tried to get with me either. To each his own taste.Good luck with your show idea!
Thanks SirLaundria! I am just so ready for skinny people to open their eyes to reality and stop stereotyping us!
I agree with you Sharon. At least 90% of the attention I get is from tall but thin men. So their show won't do good. Keep plugging your's...you've got my support girl!!!
Thanks SoulSymphony!! :-)
I noticed that in the previews. I truly have so many issues with this show that it's not even funny. They turned it into a "Big Girls" Bachelor show. I am totally not impressed.
Did you have it copyrighted also? i just finished writing an outline and in the process of having it copyrighted and forwarded to WGAe. I've scheduled a meeting with an entertainment lawyer before showing anyone. Before waiting, I would approach the matter now. Here's a book I'd advise you to read, "Writing Treatments That Sell" by Kenneth Atchity & Chi-Li Wong (Chapter 8) and "From Reel To Deal" Dov S-S Simens (Chapter 11).....

Hope things work out for you........
Thanks for the info!
